An implant is a synthetic tooth root usually made of titanium that is surgically placed into the jawbone. A replacement tooth is then fixed to the synthetic root. The tooth can be either permanently attached or removable. Permanent implants are more stable and feel more like natural teeth. Implants can also serve as carriers of a fixed dental bridge or denture.
